If its the third Saturday in February, we must be running up Chalybes and so begins the 34th Season of the Roxbury Races! Thanks to our tremendous race directors, Bob and Scott, for starting us off right. The usual suspects took their places at the front of a huge pack with Jeff Sheldon the ultimate winner in 14:14 and Theresa Krebs the leading lady in 17:48. The Hurlburt Recreation area welcomed, and barely accommodated, the record field of 74 for the debut race. Thanks to the Town of Roxbury for plowing out the parking lot and let's all hope for a quick spring thaw. A special welcome to all the Roxbury Rookies who made their first appearance this weekend. Welcome back to all the Roxbury Regulars, please do not scare the rookies. That's what the hills are for. For those of you who did no running during the Roxbury offseason, we regret to inform you that you are NOT a rookie, just out of shape. So what did we do during the offseason? Jeff went diving, Chuck grew facial hair, Amanda just grew her hair, Charlie designed t-shirts, Lynnie had breakfast in bed, Nate ran/loved Austin, Corrinne made her triumphant return, and it appears that we largely survived the holidays and cold spells. Operative word being "large" at least as we continue to run off the holiday cookies and cheer. For those of you who would like to heckle Paul Butler more often (don't we all?) or publicly refute allegations of roundhouse kicks, the Roxbury Races can now be found on FaceBook. For those of you who prefer your heckling live, we hope to see you next week for the 2.4 mile down Chalybes course.
