In consideration of our Boston-bound runners (see below), we tackled the brief but painful Chalybes 2.4 miler. It was a generally soggy and unpleasant morning, naturally clearing up as soon as the running was finished. Winning the race was Jeff Sheldon with a time of 13:21. For those of you wondering, "who is that girl sprinting around the track during warm-up?" winning the women's side and third overall was Marge DeMarrais in 14:46.
Good to see Bob back at Roxbury, we've missed you. Special note goes to Clara who is a monster on the uphills. Brian arrived with his sophisticated and stylish rain gear. Lou, we hope you had a happy birthday! The other birthday boy, Steve, who is older and thus presumably wiser suggests that milestone birthdays really just put you at the young end of a new age group.
As most of you know, the duties of the Roxbury Race Standard Bearer, Ed Sandifer, have been generally been split among a motley crew of volunteers best expemplified by the Freres Deming on the results and website and the rest of us in attire and spirit. What we've been missing is the runner who, as s/he is passing, slows to chat about any and all topics ("How's the kids?/I think Rocca is gonna kill in Boston./VAT in the USA? Never!/etc) despite that most runners are gasping for air and totally unable to respond to any attempt at conversation. We are especially proud to announce that said role is now being filled by our own Chris Norris. We suspect that he has an extensive, highly researched list of topics that he keeps under the bill of his hat. Next time the runner next to you asks your opinion about the power struggle in Kyrgzstan, just say, "Thank you, Chris Norris!"
Good luck to all Roxbury runners lining up at Hopkinton on Monday! Run well and have fun!
