After a thundery, rainy night, Saturday dawned bright like a gift to the Roxbury Races. And race we did--the Jeep Trail's 3.95 miles perhaps slightly less treacherous versus last year only because the mud was de minimus. All the rocks? Still there. All the roots? Ditto. Plenty of soggy, slimy leaves? Check. Watch your ankles when you aren't gasping for air. Jeff Sheldon won the race in a time of 24:21 while Mary Schafer won the womens' race in 29:29.
Always a pleasure to see the mighty Ed Sandifer at Roxbury, this week with one Wayne Blackman. Nice to meet you, Wayne. We hope you license your name out to Western moives. We welcomed Mrs. LoSacco, Baerbel, to her first Roxbury Race. We hope you'll come back. Though it was quickly noted a difference between the usual "Roxbury Mark" and "Relationship Mark". And so we proudly bring you this interlude: "This is not good. World's are colliding! Mark is getting upset! If Relationship Mark walks through this door, he will Kill Roxbury Mark! A Mark, divided against itself, Cannot Stand!" Mark complains that his friends are making fun of him. Which, Mark, is what friends are for.
Mystery runner #60, whomever you are, we know you're out there. We will find you, and give you a nickname. Like Stefan. Only different because Stefan is taken.
For everyone just dying for a Chris Norris fact: Most people know that Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am.” What most people don’t know is that the quote continues, “…afraid of Chris Norris.” You're welcome.
Next week, for those in attendance, we will run the Judd's Bridge short course. However, we anticipate a small crowd with not one but two Roxbury teams running the Ragnar Yale to Harvard Relay on Friday and Saturday. Watch the results (and possible disqualifications) for the Housatonic (ie Roxbury) RoadHogs and the Roxbury Roxstars. Beware in particular the Roxstars and their revealing shorts. For all relay runners, we want to know who finished fastest and slowest versus expected times as well as who produces the most spectacular freakout. Says Jeff, "Hahaha! I'll be getting all the points next week!" Um, Jeff, that would be different how?
