Reply-To: Dirk Feather Mary, I wanted to send a pre-race version of this but I ran into technical difficulties in rural Vermont...who would have guessed? The marathon has come and gone and I did okay. A quick marathon training tally for those of you that have never done this before. Over the last 4 months I have used: 3 pairs of running shoes 3 boxes of Gu (energy gel) 3 tubs of Gatorade I joined a local gym (for cross training and running in the winter) I ran over 400 miles on road, trail and treadmill and nursed roughly 20 blisters in places on my feet that I didn't know existed. There are so many people to thank for helping me through this it's hard to know where to begin. I'll start with my wife Ashli. Thank you for coming to get me in the middle of failed runs, bringing me extra water and other supplies, planning meals around my training schedule, listening to me talk about running ALL. THE. TIME. and allowing me the latitude to train for this. I couldn't have done this without your support! Thanks to my son Jamie for being so patient every time I told you that you couldn't come running with me. We'll go running soon, I promise! Thanks to the Roxbury Runners (www.roxburyraces.net) for being there, running wouldn't be the same without you. Thanks to Ed F, Erin E, James F, Mary S for all of the training tips and advice, I've used it all. Thanks to the Marathon Junkie for inspiring me to run a marathon. Finally Thank you to all of the folks who have donated to my fund-raising campaign. So far we've raised $5244.40 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to help find a cure and the money is still coming in. Hopefully it helps someone you know. Throughout my training many people said I was crazy for doing this and others provided endless encouragement (and some fell into both categories). During my training many people asked why I am doing this and I finally came up with a good response, simply, "It's hard". Ed, Whit & Avery, nothing I have ever done is as hard as this has been for you. I love you all very much! We miss you Sarah, this run was for you!
