ROXBURY –David Audet, 44, of Concord, N.H. and Kristen King, 27. of Lowell, Mass. were the male and 
female champions, respectively, at the sixth annual Ed Sandifer Roxbury Marathon, which drew a 
record field, including contestants from Canada, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, Florida, 
Pennsylvania and Illinois.
Audet covered the 26.2-mile layout in 3-hours, 13-minutes and 22-seconds in the race, which is 
sponsored by the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series.
King was clocked in 3:29:58 and placed fourth overall among the 57 finishers, which was by far the 
largest field in the marathon’s history. The previous record was 26 finishers in 2008.
The race is named after Ed Sandifer, a 12-time season champion in the weekly Roxbury Road Race 
Series. The Newtown resident completed the Boston Marathon every year from 1973 through 2009.
Mike Fink, 32, captured the Roxbury Half-Marathon with a clocking of 1:28.00.
The top finishers in both race received framed certificates that were assembled by Dave Harvey, a 
former Bridgewater resident who has run in the Roxbury Road Race Series since the 1980s.
The funds from the $5 entry fee per runner will be donated to the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series’ 
T-shirt/grants campaign.
Some of the out-of-state runners came to Connecticut as part of their 50 state marathon campaigns.
The Roxbury Road Race Series, which is sanctioned by the Roxbury Recreation Commission, will start 
its 34th season Saturday, Feb. 19, at 8:30 a.m. with a run over a 2.4-mile course. There will be no entry 
fee.
