Race Commentary by Mary Schafer.... October 03, 2009
A bit of a shake up at the front of the pack this week with mighty Joe Mendes taking top honors in the run up Hemlock. Joe says that the usual suspects who typically finish in front of him either didn't show up or didn't show up. Either way, nice run, Joe. On the women's side, Eunice Bussom crushed the hills and placed 7th overall.
Congratulations to Chuck, who completed the Clarence Demar Marathon last weekend in a mere 3:13:29. He says that he did not run negative splits, but that it all worked out. We'll let it slide this time, but don't let it happen again. Chuck will be running Boston this spring and possibly next.
We celebrated a trifecta of birthdays this week, with a huge "Happy Birthday" to Harry who turns 70 on Monday. Let's just say that the 70-75 age group is ON NOTICE, Harry is coming for you. Also happy birthday to Nora (we don't reveal ladies ages, that's what race results are for), and Paul, who's age we won't reveal because he remains a petulant child. In a surprise birthday announcement, we learned that our very own race director Bob celebrated his birthday in late September--Happy Birthday, Bob!
This week's Chris Norris fact: Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chris Norris. Also of note, remember the hot air ballooners last week? Chris Norris and the Norris clan. Thanks for cheering us on, Chris. See you next week for a run around High Bridge Road. Except those of you running marathons, good luck!
