Race Commentary by Mary Schafer.... November 21, 2009
A week after the iconic Botsford Hill Ascent, we return to our usual haunts where we can finish our run, hang out and talk, cool down, and get to breakfast within an hour! Running down Hemlock, Jeff Sheldon won the race in 20:41 while Mary Schafer won on the women’s side and 14th overall in 26:24. Thanks to the Town of Roxbury for not grating the road earlier in the week. It seems to be settling out nicely following the last grating.
It was cold Saturday morning. So cold that some runners, including Mark "Lo Sock-O" and Jeanne “I don’t believe in gloves” took to wearing socks on their hands. Paul layered up in his best Green Monster costume. He insists he only wore it because it was on sale. We aren’t sure there is a discount steep enough to make that color a good value. Jeff sported some arm warmers and as the winner of the race, he escapes mocking for said apparel. Thanks to Nate for his rapid-fire response to this week’s music trivia. For those of you who doubt the veracity of an officially authorized Falco impersonator, we direct you here: http://www.ddsg-blue-danube.at/english/factsheets/Themenfahrten/ATributetoFalco_eng.pdf We’d be suspicious if we hadn’t seen it ourselves. We can only hope he adds the Planet of the Apes Musical version of "Rock Me Dr. Zaius" to his show! Also, it was a four-dog day, which is said to be better than a three-dog night. We note that Harry finished in front of Ginger and Dudley this week. There was also a rumored Dan sighting as we passed the Roxbury market. Dan, come run with us!
Chris Norris fact of the week: Love means Chris Norris never has to say he’s sorry. We love you Chris. Please do not roundhouse kick us. At least until next week.
The Roxbury season is winding down, hope to see you all for the final ups and downs Chalybes during the next two weeks and the Roxbury Marathon, Half Marathon and Team Relay in three weeks.Congratulations to Brian Vanderheiden who ran the Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, finishing in 3:10:00 in 477th place.
