Race Report by Mary Schafer

Stop the presses! The breaking news this week is that our devoted race director, Bob Lewis, has decided to step aside after a quarter century of leading the Roxbury Races. Thank you, Bob, for your dedicated service to the running community during this time. Words cannot express our gratitude for everything you have done over the years and we look forward to continuing our runs together each week. "It's been a great run!" (pun intended?!) Bob said just before Saturday's race.

As for the race, it was a reverse of last week's mid summer championship 5-miler. We liked it better when the hills were not quite so clearly articulated immediately prior to the start. This week's winners were Cole Rossiter in 31:40 and Baerbel LoSacco in 37:57.

We lucked out with the weather. Was supposed to be 85, full sun, and humid but was 71, overcast, and even a little rainy. So all you who stayed home in the cold comfort of your air conditioning--ha! We got points and you didn't. Nate finished this week's run in exactly the same time he did last week's run. Coincidence? Brian VanderPrincess gave Kate Middleton a run for her money with all his outfit changes this week. The bandana, alas, stayed home. Mark is a Neanderthal. We'll let you decide if this is because of his back hair or because he is a Mets fan. (Ed. note: I don't make the news, just report it.) Nice to see Al and thanks for the assist at the finish. It appears that there is an additional Deming in this week's results?

Next week is the one break you get in the Roxbury schedule! Instead of running in Roxbury, we will convene at 8:30am at the New Milford village green for the Fair Days 8-miler and 5k. Advance registration is highly recommended, not because it sells out but because number pick up is chaotic, at least relative to Roxbury. Timing this year is by Platt Systems (www.plattsys.com) http://www.active.com/running/new-milford-ct/new-milford-8m5k-road-races-2011 All who are interested are welcome to convene at the Roxbury Market for breakfast, post-race. See you back in Roxbury in two weeks!
