This Saturday marked the end of the 2011 Roxbury Race season. As is tradition, we finish the year as we began—by running up Chalybes. For some reason, the hill is no less steep at the end of the season than at the beginning. You’d think after all these years we’d wear it down at least a little.
Winners this week were Noah Rossiter in 13:10 and Theresa Krebs in 16:21. Jeff loudly announced that he was "not chasing those kids" though a look at the results indicates that he did just that. Scott ran a blazing race, we can all consider ourselves lucky that it is the end of the season. Brian has reverted to his winter Ninja costume. Kung fu fighting? Yes, please! Cindy actually arrived on time for the race, Dan arrived in time to cool down. Rosie, the official photographer, had a great run and Harry even let her finish in front of him. Team McCullough was back challenging Team LoSacco for domination, but we'll call it a draw for 2011 with the Masopust sisters representing and the Clan Pribanic.
As for the official awards ceremony: Winners were Rookie of the Year Stosh Davis and Eric “Grizzly” Koenig, Most Improved. Dr Ross and Janet cleverly got themselves in the running for 2012 awards by handing out candy—well played, Levys! Candy will get you everywhere.
Huge thanks to Race Director Scott Benjamin for picking up the baton this year and running with it. Continued thanks to Bob Lewis for his ongoing devotion to the Series. We would be lost, figuratively and literally, without Scott and Bob.
Next week, please join us for the Roxbury Marathon! We are expecting a sizable field and are in need of volunteers to help out with each stage of the race. Please email or FB Mary to sign up.
December 17, 3-9pm will be the first ever Roxbury Holiday party, hosted by Bob Lewis at the Newtown VFW. Please RSVP to Bob. Otherwise, we'll look forward to seeing everyone either at the market in the off-season or on the third Saturday of February. Happy holidays!
