The rain and fog may have discouraged a few from turning out today, but they did little to dampen the intensity of this morning’s race that featured climbs up Ranney and Chalybes hills.
Ten-year old Cazden Brenner took it out hard and led for the first half-mile or so before backing off. He finished a respectable 29th overall. Theresa Krebs was the only one of the regulars that sought to match strides early on with Cazden and she remained among the front pack for a 1st place finish on the women’s side and 8th place overall.
Meanwhile, the battle on the men’s side was ultimately won by Jeff Sheldon, fresh off his first Iron Man competition in New York City last Saturday. Jeff described last week’s experience as both humbling and inspiring, and is already looking ahead for another go. On this Saturday morning, Iron Man Jeff slowly worked his way past veteran speedster and current point’s leader Ken Merrick and held on for a narrow six second victory.
Another close race was the battle for 22nd place. Here, Ross Levy nipped Christopher Buck by one second. Fortunately for Ross, he wasn’t nipped by Christopher’s accompanying pooch whose name went unrecorded. Ross was determined to beat both runner and canine, and insists that neither had a leg up on him.
Other notes: The Rossiter brothers both competed today, but we won’t see them for a bit as they’re both off to Gettysburg College tomorrow where they’ll be teammates on the Cross Country team, much like they were a couple years back at New Milford High. Cole will be a junior, and Noah will be starting his freshman year. Good luck guys.
Special thanks to Russ Pribanic, Eric Koenig and Walt Schutler for working the finish line, Bob for the cones, Chris for the stats and everyone else. Don’t forget – next week is The Boot, so BE THERE or … we’ll see you another time.
