So let's just say that weather.com and I are breaking up. We had a great relationship--it would tell me the hourly forecast, including the all-important "feels like" temperature and in exchange, it would be the first app I checked getting out of bed for my morning run. But something's changed. The hourly forecast is off, sometimes significantly, and I look like an idiot either shamelessly over or underdressed for my runs. It's hot. It's cold. But it's never what weather.com predicts. Somehow the trust we'd built up over the years has disentigrated into half-truths and lies.
So I was somewhat less than thrilled with my long sleeves, tights, and mittens at the start when it was, in fact, a gorgeous morning for running in shorts and a t-shirt. (Not an armwarmer in sight!) More perfect still for the Larry Kershnar Mid-spring Challenge 4.3 mile course down South Street, across Highbridge, and back up South Street. Winners were Ken Merrick in 25:32 and Theresa Krebs in 28:57.
Thanks to everyone for participating as we raised $281 for the Roxbury Park Improvement Fund.
Congratulations to Brian and LeeAnne for completing the Roxbury race just six days after their respective ultras and for providing amazing entertainment at the awards ceremony by serenading us with "I'm a Machine". (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUIZbhj8fuA) Brian was phenomenal on vocals and LeeAnne showed off her dynamite DJ skillz.
Let's all take a minute and notice how much higher Alison places in the results when she arrives at the start before the start of the race. Let's also note that Lou is now ageless, which we knew but good to make it official. Having finally crossed over to the other side of 7 minute miles, Steve is making it a habit. Mary and Michelle both nailed the all-black stealth-like outfits. Both admittedly overdressed. Michelle at least had the good sense to bring shorts to wear after the run. LeeAnne saw Mo's cute outfit and raised her a pair of hot pink capris. Eric has apparently made some drastic changes to his appearance, a prize to whomever recognizes him first next weekend. (Krystle, you're out.)
Next week we tackle the 4.2 miles down Hemlock and up Ranney. See you there!
