Roxbury non-race report
Who's been training in the offseason? Who gets a sassy new nickname? Who got new armwarmers from Santa? Who will get Paul's coffee? We had great hopes that these burning questions would be answered as the Roxbury race series began anew.
Alas, the 2013 Roxbury race series debuted with the race that wasn't. Friday evening the weather looked as though it would be chilly and snowy but certainly manageable for the intrepid roxbury racers. However ongoing snowfall and unplowed roads producing unsafe conditions for runners and drivers alike required a starting line of scrimmage call. Thanks to Scott, Mike, Bob, and Theresa for getting up early to assess the situation and thanks to all the runners for understanding.
Even with our own amateur meteorologist, who is notably as effective as a professional, the weather will remain finicky and ultimately unpredictable. In the event of bad weather, the directors plan to cancel races by 7pm on Friday night with notices posted on both the Roxbury race website and Facebook page. As observed this weekend, weather at 7pm Friday may be very different from weather on the ground Saturday morning. If there is any additional change, the directors will post to the Facebook page as early as possible on Saturday morning.
If you are not on the facebook page, please ask to join and Mary will approve you. if you are not on facebook, please find a friend who is who wont mind you calling early Saturday morning. please use common sense. If the weather is bad and the roads are treacherous it maybe a good day to sleep in. Finally, kindly keep in mind that the Roxbury races are almost always free and organized entirely by volunteers who do their best with available resources.
With any luck (or even without) we hope to commence the Roxbury race season next weekend. Same time, same place. See you there!
